I'm Confused

In the movie War of the Worlds didn't Robbie (the sexy son of Tom Cruize's charcter) die during an explosion. His sexy/girly hair must have saved him because at the end of the movie he just magically reappears, which is a good thing because I couldn't get enough of Robbie and his attitude.
